Title: 20 Random Facts about Buckbeak
Author: me
Rating: tame
Pairing/Characters: pretty much Sirius-centric, but if you squint you can read some Remus/Sirius. Mentions of Hagrid, Draco, Harry, Hermione and Molly.
A/N: ever since OotP I've been wanting to write something Sirius-centric from Beaky's POV. Such a good idea, this fic-memes. :)
1. Buckbeak loves to fly on summer days. Against the bright blue sky he feels (and looks, though that he doesn't know) like a cloud promising rain.
2. He has always tolerated Hagrid well enough. He is respectful and recognises Hyppogrifs as the superior creature they are.
3. Until this day Buckbeak is still trying to understand what in the world possessed the pale young human to not bow before him.
4. He maintains that attacking the pale young human was the right thing to do. Humans have to learn their place, after all.
5. He didn't enjoy much flying with the other two young humans. Granted, they were respectful and even fed him with freshly slaughtered ferrets, but they were too afraid (especially the female). And he could sense it, which bothered him.
6. But Buckbeak loved flying with his Sirius that night. Never had he met a human with such a sense of freedom and flying before. His skin prickled with raw power, which connected perfectly with his feathers and fur.
7. Until he met his Sirius, Buckbeak never believed there was a human he could see as his equal.
8. That summer night, up in the sky with his Sirius, Buckbeak felt like a star.
9. Buckbeak loved staying in that island with his Sirius. It was like summer times one hundred.
10. The time he spent in that cave in Hogsmead with his Sirius was the first time Buckbeak ever shared a meal with a human. He knows his Sirius recognised the honour.
11. Buckbeak hated being locked in that horrible room in that horrible house, but he's glad that showing his frustration by breaking things seemed to make his Sirius happy.
12. The ever-scowling red-haired woman scowled at the destruction the only time she dared to enter the room. What she doesn't know is that most of it was his Sirius' doing.
13. Buckbeak never understood why, when visiting him, his Sirius would open the cupboard, feel the mouldy clothes inside and look at them like he was trying to find some answer.
14. But Buckbeak always felt his pain.
15. Buckbeak knows there was a werewolf during the full-moon nights in the house. And by the smell of it, it was the same werewolf in the Forbidden Forest the night he first met his Sirius.
16. Buckbeak hated those nights. Not that he was afraid of the werewolf, mind you (a hyppogrif afraid of a werewolf? Impossible), but because the days after his Sirius never visited him.
17. Buckbeak doesn't understand why he was left alone in that horrible house that summer night for five days.
18. Buckbeak doesn't understand why he never saw his Sirius again.
19. He's glad he's back at the Forbidden Forest, instead of staying in that horrible house. He still tolerates Hagrid, even if Hagrid now calls him by a different name.
20. Buckbeak wishes he could fly with his Sirius again.

This was a wonderful idea for a fic! Makes memes much more interesting!
I especially like no. 6, because I've always felt that Sirius has a special connection with animals (all those birds he cadged into carrying letters for him, Pigwidgeon...Moony...) and so I really liked that sentiment.
Wonderful work :)

Oh yeah!

Yes, absolutely, but I took it a different way. Well, Beaky is some part horse, and horses are known for being extremely sensitive with their riders. So I thought that someone like Sirius feeling free again, being able to fly again after 12 years, that would overwhelm Buckbeack.
Thank you so much. ^_^

But this story? I think you materialised a story that stayed half formed in my mind since I read OotP... You said what was the most important for them both. Freedom. And flying.
Thanks for sharing this!

I noticed that too and always felt like it was so meaningful!
This sounds a bit weird, but they way you wrote it felt like it was Buckbeak talking
Well, I tried to keep the tone simple, because Buckbeak may be Fantastical, but he's still a Beast, and a bit arrogant.
So glad it worked for you, darling.

Question: Was Sirius looking at Regulus' molding clothing?
September 24 2005, 21:21:16 UTC 6 years ago
And no. Buckbeak was staying in Mrs Black room (according to Canon). Sirius was trying to find answers for his own life, not about the war. ^_^

And Buckbeak being a little jealous of Remus, who takes *his* Sirius away on full moon nights - so sweet.
Lovely.

I'm compiling a list of authors who have completed
this meme for the purposes of a. knowing where all of
the cool memeage is, and b. hosting a fic fest based
on the "prompts" therein. Would you be interested in
having this piece listed? If you are, it would mean
that you agree to allow other writers to use your meme
entry's facts/things as writing prompts for their own
fic. You would, of course, receive credit for the
inspiration---and also pimpage for your writing. What
do you say? *hopes*
